The role of the  Director-Finance is key in the success of delivering this plan. With a strong Financial Control and process background the ideal candidate will also have a demonstrable track record of business partnering and delivering change in a fast paced environment.


Business Performance and Commercial Support

Provide commercially valuable business support

Ö        Be seen by the Managing Director and peer group as a source of expert financial and business advice and an integral part of the success of the business
Ö        Develop retail development strategies and evaluate new retail opportunities
Ö        Evaluate and launch new business initiatives, (e.g. customer incentive promotions)
Ö        Monitor and evaluate marketing and promotional activity
Ö        Provide support and advice on financial and commercial matters to the Managing Director
Ö        Review management information for the business and make proposals for value-added initiatives
Ö        Provide financial and commercial skills to support business development initiatives, major pricing decisions and other commercial decision-making
Ö        Be an active member of working parties and project teams where the opportunity arises
Ö        Identify areas of the organisation that are underutilised/ underperforming and recommend actions e.g. space utilisation/outlet performance

Lead the planning and forecasting process and ensure that financial plans are consistent with the organisation’s strategic objectives

Ö        Pro-actively support the Managing Director in strategic planning, focussing on value opportunities
Ö        Take a pro-active role in the development/revision/implementation/delivery and measurement of the organisation’s business plan
Ö        Ensure a regular cycle of forecasting takes place within the organisation
Ö        Ensure that the content and detail are appropriate to the needs of the operation
Ö        Drive this process and challenge the forecasting of other departments
Ö        Be proactive in the identification and interpretation of business and economic trends which may affect the organisation’s performance or the general marketplace


Manage stakeholder relationships

Ö        Be the key business Finance representative for relationships with 3rd party owners, providing all reporting and financial obligations on a timely basis
Ö        Manage relationships with organisation’s commercial banking partners
Ö        Own the relationship with external auditors for the completion of the organisation’s annual audit

Team Development

Ö        Recruit and retain the a high calibre finance team of 9
Ö        Actively plan for succession to develop and replace individuals effectively
Ö        Establish and maintain good employee relations within the Finance function
Ö        Aim to maximise efficiency in the Finance function
Ö        Provide training to enhance financial awareness of the management team as a whole

Financial Management and Control

Ö        Ensure strong Financial Management within a robust control environment
Ö        Have ultimate responsibility for accurate accounting records and provide financial reports for the organisation
Ö        Regularly review the Balance Sheet, ensuring reconciliations are performed of all business-controlled accounts and that all balances are explained
Ö        Continually review and develop best practice Financial Accounting and Control procedures to maximise impact and efficiency                                                                                                                                                                     


Provide focussed, innovative and value-adding Management Reporting and Analysis

Ö        Deliver high quality management information and performance measurement that is accurate and relevant
Ö        Reporting should be thought provoking and action oriented
Ö        Ensure reporting that incorporates benchmarking, identification and measurement of key performance indicators and use of balanced scorecard
Ö        Utilise exceptional analytical skills to focus management reporting and develop commercial action plans for Managing Director and business management team
Ö        Ensure reporting is timely, accurate and consistent with the financial accounts and that P&L/Balance sheets reconcile to the trial balance
